Changing Multiple Selected
Points' Attributes
Try to say that title 5 times in a row
really fast... heh heh. Below is a FreeHand 9 and above only tip on
how to change several points' attributes at once, instead of one at
a time. This includes what type of point it is (Corner, Curve, Join)
as well as whether their control handles are extended or not.
It uses some hidden commands that you
must assign keyboard shortcuts to, and it's all explained below.
Version: 9 and above
|
|
| |
 |
|
Shown above is what you'd typically
see when you select one point on a path. In the Object Inspector,
you can change the Point Type, or Retract the point's handles.
|
 |
|
OOPS! This is what you get when
you've selected multiple points on multiple paths. Since each
path is at different location (x, y), you can no longer change
the points' attributes, even though they are the same kind
of point, until FreeHand 9 came along.

|
There are several new commands you
can assign Shortcuts to in FreeHand 9. These commands are located
under the Other group as shown above.
In the Points subsection,
you can see that you now have complete keyboard control over what
a point's attributes are. By default these commands do not have
shortcuts applied, but you can fix that instantly. Here is what
commands I use, and maybe you'll find them handy as well:

Corner

Curve

Option+2
|
|
Connector
|
Option+3
|
|
Retract Handles Left
|
Option+[
|
|
Retract Handles Right
|
Option+]
|
For the next part of the tip to
work, you must assign some shortcuts to these commands, they are
not found anywhere else in the menus.
|
 |
|
Now that we have some keyboard shortcuts
assigned, we can easily select multiple points on multiple paths,
then change their attributes in one easy step.
Watch the animation above as I change
the Left points to corner points, then retract the points'
handles on the Right side, all with those new keyboard
shortcuts.
How cool is that?!?
|
Not only can you change selected points
like shown above, but you can also use these shortcuts to change points'
attributes while you are drawing with the Pen or Bezigon
tools.
These few new commands I've shown you
above, are just a hint at what kind of control you are able to get in
FreeHand 9 and above. Be sure to check out all the other new
commands as well. You'll soon find that you may run out of keyboard
keys to use ;-).
