Secret Splash Screens

Most people know that starting with FreeHand 5 you could Option/Alt+click in the About window to make colored squiggle lines appear. But how many of you knew about the "Taking Illustrator out of the Picture" secret splash screen in FreeHand™ 7 for the Mac?

FreeHand 5 (Mac)

To get to this secret splash screen, first activate the Caps Lock key. Next click and hold your mouse over the "About...." menu item under the Apple. Press and hold the Command+Tab keys, then release the mouse button (the only reason I'm telling you to press the keys after you've held the mouse over the menu item, is if you have a control panel like Program Switcher installed or use MacOS 8.5 which uses the Command+Tab key combo).

Now isn't that interesting? HA HA. Looks like someone from the development team is in a band and poked a little fun at "Pat."

FreeHand 7 (Mac)

To get to this secret splash screen, first activate the Caps Lock key. Next click and hold your mouse over the "About...." menu item under the Apple. Press and hold the Command+Tab keys, then release the mouse button (the only reason I'm telling you to press the keys after you've held the mouse over the menu item, is if you have a control panel like Program Switcher installed or use MacOS 8.5 which uses the Command+Tab key combo).

"Taking Illustrator out of the Picture" is my interpretation of this lovely piece of art. Besides the text you see here, every time you activate this screen it says other things. The pattern behind all of the phrases is that they are all anagrams of "Macromedia FreeHand".

If you have QuickDraw 3D installed, you'll see a spinning cube with the words FIRE! on it. This was the codename for FreeHand 8 during the development cycle. If you click on the cube, it changes the spin direction. You'll also see a bit of Greek mythology scroll by.
