Adobe to Acquire Macromeda

  • [Hot News] — Well if you haven't heard about it yet, then you should read this press release on Adobe's web site.

This is really big news, and expect that there will be many changes to how the current Macromedia software products work, especially with Adobe's own applications. Hey, maybe they'll bring back the old tabbed panels!

What does this mean for FreeHand? It's really up to Adobe, but my deep feelings on this matter are pretty much that Adobe will either 1. sell off FreeHand to another company willing to continue development and support, or 2. phase it out of the picture slowly and (hopefully) pull some of it's useful features and integrate them into Illustrator (multiple pages anyone?).

Many of us have seen FreeHand go from one vendor to the next (Aldus > Macromedia) so this is just yet another step in it's evolutionary process.

I'll try to keep you posted on any further developments and news that I may find regarding it's future. Thanks for you support!

  • [Hot News] — Hello everyone! YAY! The FreeHand Source is back online. What happened, is that the previous host to this site went through some changes that caused it to go down until I found a new host. Well I'm happy to say that I found a new host, and I owe it all to Ron Rockwell. Some of you may be familiar with that name, as Ron has written a book all about FreeHand (look in the Links & Resources section of this site). Ron also has his own site called Brainstormer.org where you can find some of his own FreeHand tips as well as his new CD-ROM course on FreeHand. Be sure to check out his site, it's very cool.

So anyway, I am currently picking up the pieces and putting everything back together. Currently, there are a few small issues like the Polls not working correctly, and the counter on the bottom Left not working yet. But I hope to have these ironed out soon enough. If you see anything that jumps out and says "Hey! I'm broken!", please drop me a message.

  • Many of you are probably wondering "Has this site died?"

No it hasn't. It's still up and running just like it was a year ago. The only difference these days is that I don't have the time I used to, to make all the updates and write all new content. I don't want to forget about this site completely, as it was a great experience and I learned a lot, as many of you probably have as well. My life currently doesn't give me the free time I wish I had to continue supporting The FreeHand Source in the same capacity a year ago.

I will continue to support this site as much as I possibly can with little announcements like above, and other fixes or even gallery submissions (which I have a couple but haven't posted them yet).

There are just too many changes in life that you can't account for, and sometimes they just effect other things in your life. So that's my excuse for the lack in updates. I do want to say thanks to all the people out there that have sent in your concerned email. It means a lot. Cheers!
